I had 2 dogs come in my yard last week. My best RR hen was killed by the one big dog.

We chased the dogs out of our yard.
My flock is usually all day free ranged but after this I was leaving them in for the day and letting them out for 3 hour and keeping an eye out.
1 week later the dogs came back I heard them barking and my flock frantic from inside their locked run.
I chased the dogs out of the yard, got in my car and followed them for 20 min.
Soon a car rolled up beside them and called them to get in his car. I stopped, and walked up to him standing beside his car door as the dogs jumped in.

He told me that they were his dogs.I told him that they had come into my yard, frightened my flock and killed my best laying hen. I told him that if I saw them in my yard again I would phone the pound and if they killed another one of my flock I would do worse then that ( not taking their lives just insinuating something worse). I would never kill an animal for doing what in natural to it.

He told me that he was very sorry for what they had done. His mom lets them out and dose not check if the gate is closed. He had payed to get them out of the pound 2 times this week already.

He gave me his phone number to call if they came back, told me to tie them to a tree or put them in a garage or back of a truck. He would come and get them.
He said he could not pay for all the eggs my hen might lay in her life but gave me $30 cash to replace the hen. Told me that if his dogs killed any more of my flock he would pay to replace them.
He said he was very sorry for my loss and the trouble to have to follow them home.

So far they have never been back.

Nice to see a responsible pet owner.

Just figured I would share a good ending to a bad predator.

That is great that the owner was like that instead of saying,"Sorry,my mom lets them out,not my fault."Sorry about your loss!

Very nice ending indeed .... I have a stray hound dog in my yard ... He just showed up yesterday afternoon. I am not sure what to do about him. My chickens are safe in the chicken house... ( I pray)... but it is almost daylight and i want them in the run. Dang it! Dang it! Why can't people do better with their pets? Dang it... xoxox

I had 30 hens killed last September. The judge ordered the dog owners to pay restitution. Still waiting for the money. But they got rid of the dog so that means more than the money.

The thing with the mother could be true my mil lets my dog outside unattended, with our gate open, she has ran off. Use the money and buy some fancy chicks:)

That was nice of him.

I have three Weimaraners and a poodle that are strictly outside dogs. The poodle is fine with the chickens, in fact, I can shut her up in the coop and she is just fine. The Weims, however, I don't ever let loose when the chickens are out because they'll do what comes naturally to them and eat as many as they can catch. Most dogs don't know how to stay away from chickens.

I'm glad your chickens are now safe from those dogs, at least.
