A good rooster - good grief

So I had a small hatch in late summer. Just a rooster chick and a pullet. I had had a wreck, fixed the problem, and bought some laying hens, just mutts. This rooster is a mutt. I have new chicks ordered. Had no intention of keeping him, but had not culled him yet.

3 weeks ago, I noticed how calm the hens were. When I let them out and about, he sticks with them. When I come down to the flock, he has his head up and notices me. He is aware of the surroundings. He does not crow at me, moves away from me, gives me respect. I am thinking, hmmm, he is turning into a nice rooster. I will call him Bye, because so far, he has the bye.

Today, I see him for the first time breed a hen. He is calm, quiet, well balanced, and really hardly disturbs a feather...FOR A COCKEREL. I nearly didn't even notice he was doing the deed. There was no squawking by the hen. I have not seen him dance, but today, he started to call the girls to eat. No tidbitting yet, but dang I kind of think he will. He is just a nice rooster.

So I am mostly posting this for those of you putting up with a terrible rooster. There are good roosters out there. I am now thinking, if this continues, I may keep him through the summer, because I would like him to raise up some of these high bred cockerels that I have ordered. I do believe a multi-generational flock raises up the best roosters.

I have not had a rooster like this since Captain, years ago.

What is the exact breed of this amazing rooster?

@ Pgriffin30 oh he is a mutt, must have some feathered legs somewhere in the back ground, cause he has a couple feathers on his leg, I keep thinking something is stuck there. I will try to get a picture, but he is nothing grand, but he has a huge personality, and is so good (sounds like I am trying to convince you to go on a date with the ugly boy)

Your story charmed me! I’d love to have a rooster like that!

And the grandchildren test...3 under 6 years of age, one kind of mad at his dad and yelling. Got him quieted down, all excited about finding eggs in the coop, out to show me. Where is Bye? He had casually moved him and the girls away to the far corner, around the edge of a mini wall. Not fluffing up, not crowing, not upset or excited.

Honestly, I am beginning to wish he was a bit higher quality rooster, but just maybe is a high quality rooster in the characteristics that count.

I have pretty much convinced my brother-in-law to take Ludwig when he manages to finish his coop.

If BIL doesn't take him by mid-summer I'll have to start offering him to everyone in the Carolinas who wants to replace a problem rooster. He's just too much of a gentleman to think of eating him.

I have been blessed with 4 wonderful roosters. I have 4 separate flocks. My guys are wonderful protectors and fathers. I have also had the experience of bad roosters.
A Barred Rock cockeral that would literally kill hens when trying to mate, soup.
A gorgeous, Sumatra Jungle Fowl roo, that attacked me and new hen additions, gave away because he was a nice specimen.
And a Light Brahma cockeral that would poop in the water... no kidding. He pooped in the drinking water so much, he had to go.
I turned him loose on my sister's farm.
A good roo is a blessing.

I am currently having a situation where my 1.5 year old Silkie roo is becoming a little off. I don't know if it's because 3 of his hens have chicks and there are 3 young pullets in with him now.
He will walk up to any one of the pullets and grab them by their crown/puffball/topknot feathers, on top of their head.. at first, I thought he was trying to mate with them. I then realized, he is at the wrong end for that. Now, the pullets are hiding from him.
If he keeps this up, should he go?
Should I separate him from the girls?
Should I wait until his hens wean their chicks and able to be back with him?
Help me out yawl, please.
LoL, he is one of my good roosters I was speaking of... all of this has happened recently.

I have a rooster who hates everyone but me. He will attack other people if I am there and then come over to me and apologize in his own way.
