I was cleaning up after putting my kids to bed, and noticed flashing lights. I stepped out on the porch and looked up the road and saw cop cars. I asked my husband what he thought was going on, and he said he saw a vehicle pulled off to the side of the road at the end of the property when he came home. He said it looked like someone was in the, but thought maybe they were reading a map or something. I can't see it from inside the house because it's around a little bit of a corner. Well we walked up to see if everything was ok, and the cop said apparently the guy pulled over and died, maybe he had a heart attack. I can't sleep now, I'm so worried he was there needing help, but I didn't know about it until I saw the cops there. I can't believe this stuff keeps happening, I don't like in a busy area. Just a couple weeks ago a man was arrested in my yard for stealing a car in Philadelphia, they had a police helicopter and everything out looking for him.

Thats awful! I would have thought the same thing as you. Don't feel too bad, its not like you should suspect people are in dire need of help every time they stop in front of your house. It'll be ok.

oh I'm sorry! I know it is hard for you, but you could never have known! Don't beat yourself up about it. I would have thought he was out there doing something bad instead of needing help!

OMGosh-that is unnerving. Anyone with compassion would wish they could have done something, so I know you wish you could have helped. But if it was just his time to go, at least he passed on a quite country road and people came to take care of him and get him back to his loved ones. At least I hope they have some peace that they know where he is and nothing terrible happened to his body.
Ok..its just one of those moments you feel really fragile. Go kiss the kids and cuddle the DH or the dog whoever is still awake. Hope you feel better.

I am so sorry! It's not fun when those things happen close to you.
There's nothing you should have changed. Checking the property line for folks in medical distress is not a part of regular evening chores.
I hope you can unwind from that soon.

I'm studing for the Ministry and have to tell you what I think. Don't beat yourself up for not knowing if you could have helped. You were not supposed to help. If God needed you to help he would have put you in a place to do that. Everything happened the way it was suppose to. Please don't place any blame on yourself...Gloria

Oh boy, that would shake me up! But of course there's nothing you could have done. My grandparents have waterfront property. A married couple who just finished scuba diving, and had depleted their tanks, were walking along in the water. There is a steep shelf that drops off, it's the reason why people dive there. Anyway, the husband slipped off the edge and drowned. I was digging clams on the shore and suddenly the wife starts calling for her husband... It was probably the most horrifying sound I've ever heard. But there was nothing we could have done, it was just over.

Anyway, I feel your pain, but it will pass.

*PS, I bet your local newspaper won't print a "letter to the editor" claiming that YOU are at fault. This happened to us, with the divers.

So sad, but it was his time to go, and there was in all probablity nothing you could have done to save him had you been in a position to.
