Winter is rough here in Vermont and there isn't much for creature comforts for the girls so one must be a bit imaginative. I give them a large bin with a mix of sand, soil and wood ashes for their winter baths. It is a 'trip to the spa' for them. Here's a few pics of the primping and pampering, fluffing and buffing of feathers and body.

    Me first! Cuckoo marans

Hey, there is room for two here! Araucanas

Calgon, take me away! Araucana covered in dirt

Aww, that's so cute. See, if I put a bin with dirt in there, ours would just stay away from it all day and then investigate tomorrow. [IMG] They're such chickens.

Oh, and your Muscovy looks just like mine! [IMG]

Too bad I couldn't give the kid a bin of dirt and keep her happy! LOL

That is so cute how they are happy with something that seems so insignificant to us. Great pics!

The scovey looks a little upset that the pool wasn't brought in. [IMG]

The muscovies are too dignified for a dry dirt bin. [IMG] A mud puddle would make them VERY happy, however, mud season is a long way away around here yet. The hen duck is actually sitting about two feet away from the water bucket. I think she liked having the chickens jump over her to get in the dirt bath.
