A hen with Spears????

is there such a thing as a hen with spears? cus this one looks like a hen to me, acts like a hen except it has spears on it legs???
my Friend from up the road gave him to me...she collects strays so we have no idea how old it is

the tail does not look rooster-ish at all. Even his posture is all wrong (which makes me wonder if it is sick or just taking a while to ajust)

even the comb is not right, and its floppy

yes my 5 year old hen has spurs the size of the cockerel

I have no idea what type of chicken this is...But I would love it to be a hen

even the neck feathers are all wrong...

by the looks of it welsummer look them up on google, she looks like them and if she is one she is a hen because of the colouring and by the size of her comb she would have tail feathers by now id think

What color does the welsummer lay on the egg chart??
I am googling it but can't see anything but terra cotta red. that doesn't really mean anything to me unless I know how dark it is

It's definitely a hen. I've had several with spurs. My six year old RIR started growing spurs in her 5th year. I've had two Orp hens with spurs as well as one Speckled Sussex and now have an EE hen with Sumatra heritage who has spurs.


Wellies lay a deep reddish brown egg, many times very speckled.

Definately a hen. Not unusual for a hen to have spurs........Pop
