Dawn @ Breezy's Legacy
In the Brooder
I would like to start off by saying Thank You for allowing myself & Breezy's Legacy to be apart of your wonderful page. I am look forward to meeting everyone & gaining more knowledge & learning new things.
My name is Dawn. I am just a small town girl with a passion & love for all animals. I never had a favorite, I just loved them all. Growing up I would volunteer my time with my uncle who started my passion. He never ran a big name rescue, people just called him the animal whisperer. He was always the one that everyone brought animals to when they were sick or injured. There was always different types of animals around. He is the one who taught me basically everything that I know. I have been rescuing animals for the past 17 years now & I am the proud owner of Breezy's Legacy. But enough about me... Here is a few things about Breezy's Legacy & the services that we provide. (Just in case some are curious)
We are a little different than others rescues. We rescue, rehabilitate, release & re-home animals of all species. Here are a few things that we offer to the animals that are brought to us:
- Intake Evaluations All animals that come in receive a intake evaluation done by myself. During the evaluation I do a thorough check of the animal that was brought in to determine if the animal was abused/neglected or if the animal suffered from any injuries - if so what could have caused them. I look for injures like broken bones from being hit by a car & evidence of being attacked by another animal. I have to basically become the investigator, but sometimes we receive important information about the animal like where it was found or if someone may witnessed what happened to it. The information that is given to us before or during the intake evaluation helps us in our decision in choosing the animals course of treatment & if any criminal animal cruelty charges need to be pursued. After the evaluation is complete I schedule vet appointments if more medical care is needed for x-rays and further treatment.
- Urgent Orphan Care. As soon as a orphan arrives it is placed directly in a incubator or warmed up by using heating pads set on low until their tiny bodies return to a safe temperature. Then they are given their intake evaluation. After they are done with the evaluation & the babies are nice and warm they begin the rehydrating process before they can be fed the proper formula/foods that are required in their diet for their species & age.
- Medical Care All animals that have any type of injuries big or small are brought to see the veterinarian so they can receive a second exam to see how severe their case may be. This second exam will also include any & all tests that may be requested by the doctor like X-rays. After all is done they are released back into the care of Breezy's Legacy to start them on their road to recovery.
- Temporary Shelter or what we like to call it "Critter B&B". They are welcome to stay for as long as they like.
- Permanent Residency A safe place for all non-release or non-adoptable animals. They first have been seen & medically cleared with a long term medical disability determined by a Veterinarian or determined by a FWC Officer and/or the appointed Judge for other reasons. Only then are they able to stay with us until their last days. Here they will always be safe, never have to feel alone or hungry again. After they settle in we then start to work with them one on one to determine if they are a great candidate to become one of our new Educational Ambassadors.
- Sponsors & Public Donations Breezy's Legacy is a Non-profit rescue which means we operate solely on donations. The volunteers & I do not receive a weekly pay check for the care that we provide to all the animals that come in. Allot of times we use our own money to buy the items that are needed to continue the proper care for the many animals in our care, the upkeep on their indoor cages/outdoor enclosures & to pay for the medical bills that are sometimes over due.
