A Journey Through a Different Way - Funny Story Pg. 69

Thanks Jean for all of the ideas. I think I'll try a small amount of Benadryl on my poor rooster tonight because I don't think he will make it till morning. He's gotten to where he spits out the food and is just sitting opening and closing his mouth to breath, taking deep breaths that sound like wheezing.

Great ideas on stub covers for Sweetie also. DH has been suggesting similar items - like the rubber finger covers they make for people who have to turn lots of pages. I'll have to find something because I wouldn't want the end to get opened up and infection get in.

I will be watching for your post on how the Roo boy makes out, it may be too late for him but it might help another one. Good luck.

I think that the covers I was talking about would be a little more sturdy for yard running less chance of the flexing that the rubber fingers would have, but those rubber fingers might just work to pad it in the harder plastic. But you might have to try different things until ya find one that works.

Thanks again Jean. I just gave the big roo a little Benadryl and flushed out his nostrils with a little warm salt water. He is breathing better already. Breathing with his mouth closed and not taking the gulping gasping heavy breaths he was earlier. I didn't realize his nostrils were somewhat clogged up with dried up gunk till I started trying to clean them. Add that to "The List":

TOP TEN THINGS I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD DO:
#1 - Pick boogers out of rooster's nose.

As far as Sweetie's leg - she won't be able to walk on the stump. I amputated above the knee but the stump of leg that's left still sticks out sideways from her body or goes up over her back because of the bad hip joint. So she won't be putting any pressure on it in any way, just needs to keep it clean and protect it in case she gets to flopping around and hits it on something. I'm more worried about her wings. Prior to the surgery she wore them down to knubs trying to use them for balance or to upright herself. I'm hoping they will grow back and be of more use to her but right now she has no feathers on them at all.

Glad to hear he is doing better here is hoping it works.

I think that those covers might just work for her then. Good luck on those wings. Will watch tomorrow to see how your roo is doing.

Here's my Gentle Giant - 15 pounds before getting sick:

I'm praying he pulls through but he's lost a lot of weight and is looking pretty bad. At least he's sleeping and breathing a little easier right now.

How is your Gentle Giant this morning? I can only imagine how heartbreaking it is to know you are losing him. I'm praying for a miracle.

I got a chuckle out of the "pick the boogers out of a rooster's nose" comment. My husband once woke up to a baby goat in the bed between us. Now, when I bring a chicken in the house to nurse he always asks "Am I going to wake up with him/her in the bed with us?" He's a good man and has always tolerated, if not encouraged, my approach to caring for animals. Thankfully, he's a big softy

Take care,

Wow that is one Handsome fella. I sure am hoping he made it thru the night. I understand the concern about him losing that weight but he can always put it back on if we can pull him thru.

Listen to me and my we. If you can pull him thru, I have seen that benyral work some miricals on pups so I sure hope it can help him. With his nose cleaned out ya might have a fighting chance.

I have running this morning so I will check in before I take off and if nothing then when I get home.

Here praying for good news

Well the Big Guy is still with us. This morning he had a bath because he really stunk and his feathers were coated in the runny diarreah. He even tolerated the bath well. Then it was time for his forced feeding - this morning's breakfast was scrambled egg and wet cat food.

He was really breathing much better last night but this morning, after bath and feeding and letting him walk/limp around kitchen for a bit, he's doing the open mouth, throw head back, take a deep breath, repeat thing he's been doing. I've given him a little more Benadryl and he's resting now and only time will tell.

Please keep him in your prayers.

Well glad to hear he is still with us, I will keep praying. Just wondering are you giving antibotics with this as well. I thought I read you were.

Well I will keep watching for updates.
