A list of things EVERYONE should try..or know how to do...

unionwirewoman, lol... yes i would be afraid of that too, but there are so many other things, like a discussion that was going on a while ago about playing with children, building a snowman ( if you have snow),

I thought I was rubbish at everything I touched. After building my run and changing my coup, I had some wood left over and when left alone I came up with the idea of building a fence in my garden, so my babies can free range safely, making a bird table, to feed wild birds in the winter, always wanted one and could never afford it, I have built one and also 3 small ones for my neighbours children, and I produced a little booket to teach them about the birds and to encourage them to keep a list of other birds and to find out about them.

Bought more cheap wood, mind, but I now have a safe and secure garden, and I can be proud of something.

lol... and.... big AND.... it has been fun. Also kept my arthritic arms and neck quiet for a while. lol.

Jena.

I would like to add something to that list...

say NO and not feel gulity about it

so many times we are asked to do something and we are gulited into saying yes because we dont want to hurt the feeling of the person who asked

as soon as i learned this lesson my life became a lot easier...true i only have a few people who i would call real friends..(lets say my phone does not ring off the hook on a saturday night)..

but you know what i dont have a lot of "fake" friends who want nothing more then to suck what they can out of you and then move on...

when my boyfriend bought my drill and scroll saw he didnt show me how to use them, he knew I would figure it out. I watched a lot of DIY shows.

The other thing, especially for girls because I happen to be one, along with getting my drivers license I had to know how to change a tire, check the fluids and help with repairs. I can sometimes closely diagnose the problem based on common sense (its not getting any gas) and where the noise is coming from. I could change my own oil if I had to and have installed a battery and filters. My dad believed if you going to drive it your going to take care of it.

I love it.. I try (the word is try, but fail regularly) to do those things every day.

I have accomplish alot, and I have failed alot too..

I would have to say that half of that falls under the Responsibilty qoute that was posted ...............the other half I agree on. I just had a conversation with SD about this .......DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER . Some of us are ragged and worn down...some of us are brand new ...some of us have pretty pictures ....others are just plain . Once you get past that ...you might learn something...or even enjoy the book .

We all have the capability to learn more...it may take longer than some ....we may not be as good...but our brain allows us to function . It's in us...some are just unwilling and too afraid to learn

All very true!..and very well said...
clap.gif
..my only question would be...who makes this standard of learning?.. whose standard do i have to meet?..do you know what i mean?....i mean as long as we CAN spell/write the basics, and can get a job and get by in society, and pay our bills and keep a roof over our families heads..
idunno.gif
.......i cant spell or write correct grammar worth crud!....LOL...but, i'm getting by just fine...happy/healthy, content...
idunno.gif
..it works for me.......but you are right, we ALL need to know the BASICS to get by in society...there are so many kids just getting passed along in school... and they at 14-15 years old still cant spell at all.(and i mean at ALL!..
th.gif
..)..i get kids like that all the time..and it gets me very upset that they have just been passed along and passed over all those years...when they come to my house and i find they are real behind, i give them words to copy down(so many times)..and make them read books...and i have them write a small summary on each chapter, (just so i know they are really reading it!..
gig.gif
..)...most dont like it..
hide.gif
..but, i still make them do it because i want them to at least be able to function in our world....it dosent have to be at a high level..just be able to function and get a job...then again..i also get kids that are einsteins(sp?)!...and ASK me for books!....
celebrate.gif
....also, just wanted to say:..i think you set a great example for us..all these things you mention, we should know how to do!...i cant do 1/2 of them...i cant even get my car hood open.. i have no clue ..
hu.gif
..and thats bad, very bad if i ever got stranded somewhere, so thanks for a bit of an eye opener!..appreciate it!....*cant sew a dang button on either!*...

......take care, Wendy

know how to pay the bills, who/what/when/where/how they are all due, what/where/how much insurance policies are - i.e, be prepared for the unexpected.

big lesson many refuse to confront or face until its too late or its already sitting in front of them at the worst time possible.

Know how to do CPR at a very basic level - it could save your life or someone elses someday

Know how to change a tire and jump your car - that way you never get stranded. (my dad taught us girls this very early in life) - although those stupid battery cables still scare me.

MAKE MISTAKES IN YOUR LIFE - for without them, you will never grow as a person

(just do not repeat the same mistakes over and over again)

Learn to say I'm sorry - and mean it - because actions speak louder than words sometimes and words can be empty if you just say "sorry".
