Temps here got up to 6F yesterday! Plus we had sunshine!
The guineas finally decided to come out for some fresh air. They didn’t want to walk in the snow, so up the pine tree they went😆

Poor little girl in the middle just wanted a nice nap in the sun, but the chicky behind her kept calling. Haha.

I’m not sure what happened to her head. I didn’t notice the blood till I came inside and looked at the pictures. Pecking wound or maybe got cut flying into the tree?

Hope everyone is staying warm!
It hasn’t been an unusually cold winter, but this cold is sure lasting a long time without a break.
How is everyone doing? It’s been pretty quiet around the guinea forum.

Lol mine won't even come out! The nice thing is everything is frozen so clean up is a breeze. It's a good time to work with the juvenile delinquents & get them better accustomed to being handled (it's not like they can get away). Bad thing is Blue & Nugget are in there too, & start getting ancy about me holding other birds. If you can stand the cold, this is the best time to bond with your birds, bc when mating season kicks in,you become the relative that crosses their mind once in awhile.

I agree! Mine have been cooped up during the worst of the weather. On those days I go out and talk to them when they are safe in their coop and can't escape. I almost have them eating out of my hand!!

I am looking forward to hopefully incubating some eggs this spring though. Coommeeee on April!

Most likely a pecking wound. It will be fine. It got up to 13°F yesterday and is currently -3°F.

The first time with snow was traumatic. The second year wasn't much better. Now they come out and wander in the snow with no problems. If there is bare ground they will jump over spots of snow or walk right through them.

Getting more snow here than we have had in years. Cold/snow/coronavirus - starting to get a bit of cabin fever, but spring is coming.

That's a great picture.
Thanks!
I agree. Cabin fever is really starting to set in now.
Beautiful pics!! They look very happy to be outside.
Thanks! I think they were happy to be out:) They have been cooped for about a week and I’m sure that gets old fast.

Haha, it’s funny you said that. I did hang out with them for a while and gave them corn since it’s been a couple weeks since they’ve had any. I was able to bend down and pick this guy up😆 He wasn’t thrilled, but did hold still for a couple pictures View attachment 2524401

Mine have been cooped up too. It does make for a nice time to just sit with them:)
And yes! Can not wait to start hatching some eggs! I’m working on chicken eggs for now, but I want to hatch guineas. 😁

That’s what I’m leaning towards too. I’ll keep an eye out to make sure they aren’t getting too pecky with one another.
Lucky! I’d love to hit double digits above zero. Looks like we might in a week or so. Gotta make it through a cold spell this weekend first😝

The snow-meh..they came out, flew to a surface (the kennel, picnic table, branch) and basked in the sun. But this week has been cold w/neg windchills in the night. They want nothing to do w/it. They pop out in the run to eat & drink then return to the coop-and that's with an enclosed run. In the late afternoon when the sun is in the southwest, they come out for a bit, but they are not impressed w/the cold at all, even shifting which foot they stand on. That's probably why the terrible twins let me hold them, a bit of a struggle until they realized fleece is warm. Lol.
