If you want a very friendly hen that is also a great egg producer, buff orpingtons are good, my brother has one and she is nice, but I really think you should look into ISA Browns. I know several people that will own nothing but them, they love them so much. Since they are arguably one of the best egg producers, I would imagine they can be found in Hawaii.

Another breed to consider for the same reasons are Australorps. I have a friend with two hens and they are nice birds.
