Good morning chicken friends. My fiancé went out to the barn to find that our polish girl was laying on a whole clutch of eggs!! I saw her getting covered by our only rooster, a large black Sumatra, just a few days ago. Is it possible for her to have fertilized eggs that will hatch chicks, since they are different breeds? She is acting very broody; doesn't come out as often and there is a large amount. This is her first time laying eggs, she is about a year old now. This is the first time any of my chickens laid eggs as far as I know.

Absolutely possible that her eggs are fertile - chickens are chickens with the same chromosome # regardless of breed. Depending upon your location you may want to candle to assure eggs have not been frozen.

Yes likely the eggs are fertile! You can candle them to watch their development, just us a torch and a dark room to look inside the egg, theres plenty of diagrams of chick development on the internet that you could check out. Good luck!
