Hey ya'll, Every year my daughters school does a hatch for the kids. The teacher usually get eggs from the extension office, this year they couldn't get them until too late, she wants them by next week because the kids will be out of school end of May. The teacher called me because she knows I have chickens, but I just got rid of my only rooster so I dont have any fertile eggs. I was wondering if anyone could help us out. She does have a budget for eggs although pretty small. I was wondering if anyone had extra eggs they would donate and we would pay shipping. Truly doesn't matter the breed, just possibly light colored eggs so the kids can see through the candling process. A barnyard mix will be just fine. We would really like 12-20 eggs.
Can anyone help us?? Thanks so much!

Wish I could help. I only have 3 hens with a roo and they don't spit out that many eggs!
Hope you find some fun chickies to hatch!

Edit:
Did you see the auction item for free fertile eggs? They are just asking for shipping paid.

Texas A&M will provide eggs for teachers if they say they are doing a school embryology project. Have her google that. They are cheap, like $3 for 12 plus shipping. Are there any local feed stores? You can usually ask them and they can help you order some. Good luck! I ordered some from Texas A&M and asked them to arrive next week so I am hoping they do. We have eggs in our third grade classroom. The kids love it!

When I needed eggs, I posted a request for them on my local FreeCycle network. You can also post on Craigslist and call local farmers. Good luck!

I'll monitor this to see if you have anyone that can help. I make occasional trips to visit my folks in Streator and Ottawa, but I don't have anything planned for this weekend. Too bad there is a time crunch or I would have delivered you some in person for free. Hopefully someone comes through.

Wish you were a little closer and they had more time, I would have brought you some of my turkey eggs. Ive got too many and they are doing really well. You are in an area where there are BYC'ers kind of close. Go to the user list and do Illinois, and go through and see who is by you. I know that there are a few in Joliet and a few more around kankakee and such. If you could find someone locally, it might be a better hatch than shipped eggs. Good luck!
