Sorry, I just realized that I hadn't introduced myself properly.
I do want to thank BYC and all the members who have helped me with my first chicken-raising venture---I appreciate all the feedback, critiques, and all around general help that I've found here!
Using the BYC template, here goes:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. First time chicken mama.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have six right now. Two days old when we got them, they are now about eleven weeks old. We started with seven but lost our beloved little sweetie Rocky when she was eight weeks old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Two Buff Orpingtons, two Silver Laced Wyandottes, two Golden Laced Wyandottes. Rocky was a Barred Rock.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching for chicken info on the internet and realizing how much help I needed. So thankful I found BYC!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, cooking, enjoying retirement.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Just me, my husband, one dog, and six chickens living on a little less than three acres in the lower Hudson Valley, NY. Two grown kids, six grandkids (three in NY, three in Northern CA). DH and I are both retired now---I was an ICU nurse for more years than I want to think about. DH is a Vietnam vet and was in HVAC before he retired. Health issues have him cutting down on projects (we gutted and redid two houses in our younger days) but he's enjoying chicken-related projects right now.
We bought the coop but we built the run:
