8 weeks ago the Southern States in Winchester, VA told us that they would be getting Ameraucana chicks on the 21st of April, said they would get to the store at about 11:00 AM so we should get there a little after 11. Well I was there well before 11, I was checking out the chicks but saw no Ameraucana chicks, a clerk came over to ask if I needed help, asked him if the Amereucana's came in, He gave me a very sorry look and said that they came in and someone took the whole lot of them. 8 weeks of waiting down the drain!

That sucks

Sorry. Were they real Americaunas, or were they Easter Eggers? If they're EE's you should probably be able to find them somewhere else, but they might be mislabeled as Aracaunas instead. It should be the same thing. Good luck with your search!

I had the same problem when I went to our local small-town feed store's "Chick Day." I had reserved a Buff Orpington, a Black Australorp, a Black SexLink, an Ameracauna & a Speckled Sussex. As soon as I walked up to the place, there was a sign saying that some breeds weren't available because of a poor hatch. My Speckled Sussex was one of those

So, ok, I'll find a substitute...which is how I got the Delaware (thank goodness I had done my research and knew that I wanted one). Then I go to get my Black SexLink, and was told that they all sold out early in the day. I had a reservation mind you. It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where he goes to pick up his reserved rental car, and they don't have it... "I see... you can take the reservation, you just can't hold the reservation...the "holding" of the reservation is the operative word here..."

Anyway...I substituted a Golden SexLink instead...and I'm happy with them, I just wasn't thrilled about how the feed store handled the whole thing. Ah well...

So sorry you didn't get the babies you wanted!!

I don't know much about it but I think that real Americaunas only come in certain standard colors. But if it was a feed store it's almost guaranteed they were Easter Eggers (mutts, basically, but still worth having). Anyway, if your area is anything like mine you won't have any trouble finding them again.
