One afternoon my husband was going to pick up our son up from practice and noticed a hen in our yard. Hmmmm...wonder how she got here? We do not have any chickens ourselves, nor do any of our neighbors. Well we thought she would wonder back to wherever she may have came from and went on with our normal routine for the evening. That night it had snowed with some freezing rain. The next morning, we went to leave and noticed that the hen had not moved from her location from last night. At that point point we were saddened to assume that the inevitable had occured. However, when we walked up to her, we were suprised to see that she was okay. At that point we did not know what to do with her other than pick her up, bring her into the garage, go get a heat lamp, some scratch and a watering dish. Ever since that day we have had her. Come to find out, this orpington sweetie is blind. We constructed a little coop for her and got her a young batam. THey were great together. She would follow the little batam around like a shadow. Unfortunately something got the little batam. This orpington would make a great pet. She is very calm and loves to be held, She is free to a good home and comes with the coop we made, food, watering dish bedding, etc. We live in Michigan near Frankenmuth. Please reply if interested. Thank you.

Might need to ad a location to help us. There are a few folks around here who take in special needs chickens.

Good luck!

you sound like a compassionate family; we need more people like you EVERYWHERE
i volunteer as the farmer at my local SPCA. normally just dogs and cats are surrendered but sometimes they get exotics like ducklings, chickens, sheep..., that is when they ring me and we bring them home to oiur sanctuary.
ring the local humane society or aspca in your nearby city and they probably have a contact for you.
good luck
