A male that doesn't crow at 5AM

I'll second that... I have two roos that don't make a peep, others that crow night and day (I keep them inside at night so they don't disturb our sleep - to heck with the neighbors!!

) but yesterday we had a large hawk circling the yard, and those girls made SUCH a ruckus!!! I was afraid someone was going to come and complain!

My 2 month old pullets (four of them) just began clucking. I am astonished at how loud they can be! It's pretty hilarious, actually. But yes, *loud*. They don't vocalize very often, and I wait every morning until 8 o'clock to let them out. They wait quietly in the coop as this seems to be their routine and they're used to it. I don't want they squawking to be let out and awaken neighbors.

I have 2 roosters and Sally (yes his name is Sally) rarely crows. Henry crows if he sees me sitting on the back steps when he's looking through the gate. More or less of his way of calling "Mama" me. Other than that mine rarely crow. My uncle said it's because their spoiled rotten and don't know they're chickens/roosters.
