A mysterious white egg! (We only have brown & blue egg layers)

Here is the info I received earlier from Ron:

"It's white, so probably not the EE. My guess is one of the older layers lost the color coat for the eggs.

Blue eggs are colored in the shell. Brown eggs are white shells with a brown coat.. Green eggs are blue shells with a brown coat.

That's a nice looking egg.

. It's great that yours are still going for so long. I am encouraged."

Ron

(There is also another great explanation I received from another BYC member... I will post that too when I can!)

Thanks EVERYONE!!!!

I'm so glad you got feedback from someone who knows what they're talking about! I thought it was the brown, but wasn't sure. I'm still pretty new at this.

But I gotta ask... Who's Ron? :D

I've written about egg color here:
http://hencam.com/henblog/2012/02/brown-green-blue-white-chicken-egg-color-the-real-story/
The membranes are always white. They just look colored next to the egg shell. The pigment is put onto the shell after the shell is formed. It might be that your hen ran out of pigment, for stopped producing it and will start up again.
Ah, I had a feeling I was wrong about the membrane. I thought "if it's blue... it's blue all the way through" applied to the membrane as well. Thanks for educating me.

Is a member here on BYC that is located in CA, like me. I seem to recall getting a lot of helpful info from this member throughout my time on this site.. And he recently was nominated for BYC spirit award... we converse regularly in another thread for CA.

Tell me more about this California thread!!! I am in Norther California and would love some local points of view.

Napa! I am so excited to meet others in my area. Most of my friends are pretty sure I joined the crazy train when I got chicken. They just don't understand.

Nope! Those without chickenitis will have a hard time understanding our obsession. I like BYC because on here everyone understands! See you on the thread!
