A new Hobby Soap making Love it

Tried my hand at a pencil line. Used a FO that was called buttercream snickerdoodle, thought I'd put a little cocoa in the bottom layer to darken it a bit. SOoooo... Here is my masterpiece right after cutting....

Now this one was suppose to be a pineapple coconut mixture but the pinapple took over so no coconut. And we wont even talk about what happened with my color plan, but it did turn out to look sort of sherbert-y! Smell yummy!!

That fragrance has vanilla in it which causes the soap to darken over time. Sometimes you can use titanium dioxide to lighten it somewhat or you can use a vanilla stabelizer which can have mixed results. Mostly though, like ash, you have to embrase the brown

I have a few questions, What grade of oils do you all use? Organic or not? I want to start getting my supplies together. Do you buy your oils at grocery or health food stores? We have a whole foods & sams 45min-1hr away. I did read on the soap makers help thread that some of you use Sams, costco, that sort of place. Is that where most of you get your oils? What brands to you use, or does it matter. regarding oo, do you use evoo, or does that matter? Also, the scales that you use, are they electronic? I have one of the old household type with the "tray" on top. You can set it where you need it, but I was wandering about the hundredths or tenths of ounces I see in some recipes. Would this one work, or should I get one that will give me these kinds of readings? I think I will get the DDH to making my molds when he gets a min. He always gets involved in some way or another in my hobbies!! I'm very excited to get started! My neighbor is getting ready to open a small shop where he makes soy candles. He may take some of my goatsmilk soaps! So I really want to get started so I can get it perfected and cured! I'm reading thru the soap making help thread and am on pg 92! So back to my reading! Thank you for your answers and comments!

Get your recipe down and consistant before you start to sell it. You want to make sure that you are making the best product you can so that people come back!

I do not use all organic oils. It just cost too much. If you are doing this for yourself though and don't mind the cost and that is important to you, go ahead. I get all my oils except OO from Columbus Foods. The OO I get from Sam's. Check out the reference thread too.
