A New Predator....PIGS!!!!

I have to agree with jkcove....some are nice, some are mean. The first hog we raised...he was sweet natured. He even would push feed from his trough, and watch the hens eat...never trying to bite them. I could easily go in the pen...he would just lay down and want a belly rub. Now, these 2 girls? One is very mean and sneaky. This is the one that got the hen today. She bit my knee, when I went in to spray them and thier bedding for lice. The little girl...she is sweet...loves to be rubbed with a stick. Sorta like any animal...some are mean...some are nice.

I don't know if you have this problem in Indiana, but in Michigan we've had a problem with feral pigs and some Siberian boars that escaped from a game reserve. There's open season on them, out of state boar hunters!! PLEASE!!

The local paper ran an article about them. There have been reports of the feral pigs eating FAWNS of all things. And the ones here in the north are not Hogzilla sized either, just normal pig size. Pigs are omnivores, same as people, they can and will eat anything.

Wow...poor chickie! Do u think my 2 small dogs would be a problem?

If you are asking if the pigs would eat the dogs!?? Definately...if they get into the pigs pen. Pigs can...and will...eat most anything.

When I had my pig, my chickens always went in her pen to eat her spilled food. She was just a piglet then, but she never showed any aggression. I wouldn't have thought that pigs eat chickens...

I've seen a number of mean pigs in my day... even pigs that kill and eat chickens.

as someone else said, it depends on the individual animal, but pigs and/or grown hogs can be VERY aggressive, and because they are strong and powerful, can cause a great deal of bodily harm if not death. One ran up and attacked my dad when he was in the pen and tried his darndest to get him down with my dad trying to beat him off with a 2 x 4 all the while this was happening. NEVER trust any pig and allow them to be unsupervised while young children, small pets, or small anything else is around!
