In the Brooder
Hi Shardrach,
Thanks. Indeed, predators abound. Had a close encounter with a hawk the other morning while I was out with our flock. Luckily, our White Leghorn, Helga, let out the warning call that sent the girls running for cover and I was able to jump up and startle the swooping raptor. All were saved but our Buff, Emma, was slow to come out of the shrubbery in which she was hiding - it took her at least 5 minutes of me coaxing her to come out. A little fear isn't a bad thing though. It will keep our girls on their toes!

We are glad you joined our flock.
We are glad you joined our flock. You know how wet and cold our winters get here. There was a member on here, no longer active from what I can tell, who's husband worked for UofD and got a set of eggs. She hatched them and sold them. Since I didn't live too far from her, I was able to get the two. She later had a "white" variety and that was that. I keep hearing that you have to contact UofD Ag College to get them but that never worked....I live right by it!!! You would have to find someone who works, there, like this woman's husband, and get them to give you the eggs/chicks. There were some breeders down state (slower lower DE) but they don't seem to be active on here anymore either. I'm going to add you to my "following" and if I come across any, I'll contact you! They make the neatest noises (talking)….almost like a flute.
