A newbie diary—CRISIS MODE!

Updates?

I need to see pics of the Brooder! Being new I can't figure out why the hardware cloth and hole in the lid? To keep out the cat? To keep the chicks in?

I used two 50 gallon totes w/o a lid...on a table. But, then....they little stinkers started "flying".

So, I had these wire shelves...the kind that you put in your kitchen cupboards or pantry to make extra stacking shelves.

Kinda like these, but larger...

I placed them (and a freezer shelf from a defunct freezer) over the brooders. The legs make them fit securely. It's nice that they're plastic coated and don't get hot under the brooder light.

Hello everyone. Remember this saga? Well, here it is, 10 years later (almost to the day! Go figure!)

I finally got chicks. Here they are...

I was unemployed for almost a year back in 2010, so I had more time to write. I'm 10 years older (70) and have been stuck at home for going on three months. I don't know about the rest of you but I feel like I'm going nuts. Enough about me, here are the chicks. Funny, they don't look 10 years old... they are less than a week old in this picture.

And they are so fascinating to watch.

I saw 'chest bumping' yesterday. Too funny. And names.

Here we go: Archie; Racer; Baby bunting; Hyacinth Bucket;
They are English Silver Laced Orpingtons.

Sorry you all had to wait so long...
