I bought this old brooder from an online classified listing. I have already dismantled it. So I can straighten up the little bitsheet metal damage there is. I am going to leave the faded paint and patina as is. I have a replacement heating unit for it. I am going to rework the wiring. So the original lights and thermostat control knob will work with the new unit. I also have some light tan canvas to replace the tattered and worn curtains with. I can’t wait to use this with a batch of chicks.

Looks like an "Ohio" brooder. Used during cold winters in Ohio originally, a small box within a big barn is heated. Its similar to a heat plate in how it works. Typically you chain them to the ceiling and lower/raise them as needed. There is a heating element under that "hood", and the chicks run in and out.

If you search ohio brooder on this site some people have had them here

Nice pickup @Silexian let us know how it cleans up

This one has adjustable legs. I am familiar with how they work. I just like bringing old things back into service. Plus this is much lighter than a wooden structure of the same size.

I'm impressed with anyone who has "winter" projects that they actually work on. I have (sigh) a ton of projects that will likely still be waiting for me to get to work when spring arrives.

And, thanks for sharing the photo -- I've never seen anything like it.
I have quite a few of unfinished projects myself. This one is pretty easy. I just removed the old heating element and deteriorated wiring. I have ordered a new Brower brooder heater. Which already has everything included. All I have to do is bolt it on and run a couple of wires to the new light sockets. I installed in the hood of this unit.
