I have a nice flock of young (5-6 week old) chickens and a flock of young ducklings (2 weeks old) that I hatched out in my 'bator. The chicks feathered out on their wings really quickly and compared to the size of their bodies, the chicks wings looked h-u-g-e! But the ducklings are the exact opposite. Their wings are puny compared to the size of their bodies! It sort of reminds me of a T-Rex, big body and little bitty arms!

This may seem like a weird question but, when do duckling's wings finally catch up with the size of their bodies? Do their wings go through a big growth spurt at some point? Right now they just look so odd with the big bodies and tiny wings.

at about 3ish weeks, you'll notice their wings are getting longer, and are starting to get the pin feathers that will be the flight feathers.

duckling wings are addorable!

What a cute picture! Yes, mine look so funny when they stand up and flap those little wings! Right now the bodies and beaks seem realllly big and the feet look about right, but those little wings are just comical!

I have been putting them in a play pen out in the grass during the day. It has more room than their brooder and they love nibbling on the weeds. They also get a big bowl of water for swimming. It can only hold 2 of them at a time now, but they seemed to have worked out a rotation

In the mean time, here is a picture of my formerly ridiculous looking buff/khaki mutt and her hunky rouen boyfriend
