A question about fertility

Cheers all:
When a roo mates with a hen, how long does the sperm stay in the hen? Is the sperm used each mating per egg, or does the hen store the sperm for several fertilizations? If she stores it, how long after the roo is removed will she lay fertile eggs?

2 to 3 weeks but i have had hens stay fertile for up to a month

That is so cool!!

You know, when we had two hens killed a month ago, we had to butcher them. If you have done that, then you have seen the many yolks of ascending size that are just waiting for a shell. It is pretty amazing. They go all the way to teeny tiny!! I can imagine that all of them could get fertilized. That makes sense, doesn't it? hmm...
