In my one coop that has 8 month old layers, meat birds and a broody with chicks I have been feeding a feed called "allway kernels", a flock raiser type feed. It's non-medicated crumbles. Offering oyster shell on the side of course.

Due to an unexpected snow storm the other day my regular feed store was closed.

I was completely out of feed, so we traveled to another feed store but their choices were limited.

All I could find for mama and her chicks was medicated game bird starter. It's crumble, medicated with bicatracin, 28% protein. The rest of the flock in that coop are now back on layer pellets.

Is this going to be okay for my week and a half old chicks to eat, when previously they were eating non-medicated. I've fed medicated to chicks in the past, but it was medicated with amprolium and I fed it from the start, not after a week.

Should I only feed it until I can put them back on their regular feed or is it okay to go ahead and finish up the 50# bag?

TIA

No longer than absolutely necessary. You really don't want any of them on antibiotics when not needed. Hie thee to the feed store asap, woman!

And Ranchy, you come explain to my darling Keith why I have an almost 50# bag of feed that I won't feed.

The feed bins are kept on the front porch - one for scratch, one for layer pellets, one for the chicks food and one for DE. It's starting to look like a freakin' feedstore out there.
