A question for exercise/fitness people...

This is all very interesting.

It's interesting when you consider all the information that is out there. Say, if it is appropriate to lose 1-2lbs per week but you compare that to the weight loss of the contestants on the Biggest Loser who start off by losing well into the double digits their first week and maintain a weightloss of anywhere from 2-20lbs per week after that, it makes you wonder. Of course no person living their regular day to day life has the same amount of time to devote to exercise as the people on the show. It is compelling to see former contestants who have kept the weight off well after the show. It seems that most, but not all, keep the weight off.

My biggest interest in losing weight results from my being diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago. My husband and I have been trying to start a family for quite some time. My first meeting with a fertility specialist was at the end of March, 2009. Following that appointment I started trying to lose weight more actively. I adjusted my diet to accomodate for the fact that women with PCOS should keep a close eye on their carb consumption, as well as many other factors. I lost about 14lbs and though my weight has fluctuated since then I am currently at that same weight right now (down 14).

My current plan is to keep a moderate eye on my diet focusing on adding more healthy foods and reducing portion size. I'm hoping that this will work in combination with my exercise routine to put me on the road to increased weight loss.

I do have to say that I love my Wii Fit Plus. I have never in my life come anywhere near enjoying exercise as much as I do with this program. It's fun but challenging. With more traditional exercises I get bored or frustrated before I even break a sweat. That's not the case with the Wii. I love that I can do any of the variety of activities as frequently as I chose, and switch back and forth very easily. I also enjoy the fact that I can create my own routine with a combination of Yoga and strength training activities. I find that I break a sweat within the first 5-10 minutes and keep sweating for the rest of the workout. It feels great. The only downside I've encountered is that it seems to take quite some time to get to my calorie burn goal because of the time in between exercises when I'm going back and forth between menus and choosing my next activity. If I'm in a hurry I try to do mostly aerobic activities. My plan is to exercise at least five days a week, even if some days I only have time to do a short workout. Some exercise is better than none afterall.
