i often have to have "the talk" with my birds as well it goes something like this... "lay me an egg or your getting culled in the morning" works every time.

I DONT SAY NUTHIN TO MY BIRDS... I JUST SLOWLY SAUNTER OVER TO THEIR PEN WHERE ANOTHER PEN IS NEXT DOOR AND THROW AN OLD CROCKPOT UP ON TOP OF IT AND A RUSTY KNIFE AND SLOWLY WALK OFF.... ALL WHILST WHISTLING A TUNE.... NEXT THING YA KNOW IT'S RAINING EGGS

AND WE SAY QUAIL ARE DUMB...

This looks awesome! It resembles what I built last weekend. But yours looks like it has a large empty space on the bottom.... Wait, I think you can build more to house double!

Coturnix will use a box most of the time if one is provided. I would also put something solid on part of the floor to help protect their feet.

I keep ranting about those grass caves made for rabbits you can find at petco, petsmart. Little baskets shaped like caves. I sprinkle in some shavings and get all my eggs laid in there. They sleep in them too. Hens perch on top of them to avoid overly amourous males. Disposable and replacable if need be and you don't have to "build" I have two to a pen of 6 hens and a roo. 3 eggs in each basket/cave each evening.

Peter Marshall's grass cave for rabbits. Awesome...
