I am trying to make my own butter and can't find anyone to sell me some fresh cows milk. I found on the web where you can make it from heavy whipping cream, and would like to know if anyone here has used this?

Does it taste as good or should I wait till I can find the fresh cows milk?

Not sure if I posted in the right place , so please be kind enough to move me if I haven't.

Also have a Question for MissPrissy about her yogurt. Can you use the yogurt you made to start the next batch of yogurt or must you use the store bought always in making the new batches?

Thank You.
Mona

(Edit to add: ) I found a place to sell me my raw milk and it is 60 miles from my house. What I need to know is can I freeze the butter I make ? What I mean is, if I have to drive that far I'd like to buy enough to make alot of butter. I'm just not sure how long the butter will last and if I can freeze it to use later?

You'd be paying a LOT for your butter if you made it from whipping cream, but you can make butter that way.

I think you can use your own yogurt as a culture, wouldn't see why not.

I know the cost is awefull but I would like to try a sample of the butter to see if I can get my DH and children to make a switch to homemade instead of store bought.

I'm gonna try the yogurt this weekend because we all love it so much and the price of buying it is getting to be extreme to say the least.

Just so ya know, homemade butter is almost white, and you have to add salt if you want it salted. It IS better than store bought tho. You can do a search for raw milk, if it's allowed to be sold in your state, to find a dairy.

It's wonderful!!! You need to make sure that you add some salt though. Just a little will do unless you like your butter really sweet. I have made butter with heavy whipping cream with the Cub Scouts by rolling a jar with the cream in it back and forth between the boys and it came out wonderfully! We ate it with some muffins. Make some! You'll love it! Here's a website that will help you out.

I ate it when I was growing up but couldn't remember how Grandma made it, but my DH and children have never had it before. I'm worried they wont take to it.

Thanks so much! I didn't think about doing a search or if it was allowed to be sold here. I'm in SC so maybe I'll find some. Cross your fingers for me.
