"Hello everyone!"
frow.gif
I've just joined up and wanted to say hello to everyone already a member and to those out there whom are lurking!

I've had chickens for going on 16 years now and after just recently receiving 21 new birds, Barred Rocks and White Rocks, I was looking for some information and new ideas for my housing of them. I've been looking at everyone's coop designs and have found some very interesting as well as practical set-ups. I was down to 6 hens and my coop made out of old fencing, 4x4's and plywood has survived 1 almost burn down and probably around 100 birds or so over the last 15 plus years. To care for 6 hens for me is almost senseless, 2 of which are Silkies, and that's why I acquired 21 more birds.

I'm sad to say that I lost 2 of the 21 so far

but after 2 1/2 weeks the other 19 are all healthy as can be!

There is 1 little runty Barred Rock

that I'm watching closely but she eats, drinks, poops and runs with the rest of the girls so my fingers are crossed!

I'm located in Suffolk County, Long Island New York and if I can assist anyone in almost any way please do not hesitate to contact me. My wifey is due in August with our second child and my soon to be 3 year old daughter just loves the new chicks!

Well I guess that this "Quick Hello" has taken longer than expected. Thanks for the resources provided by all of you whom have contributed and I hope to get back to the forums soon! My best to everyone and if you've been up North in the cold then enjoy the warm weather!

Thanks for the welcomes! I don't sleep that much about 3-4 hours a night and I'm 45 going to be 46 this year. I've seen on different documentaries that as I get older that I'll sleep even less. I'm just wondering if that means that eventually I'll be turning into a "Zombie!"

Hello again everyone!

write2caroline I used to go to Jacksonville to live for a few months every year after new years and enjoy the warm weather waiting for the spring to come back to Long Island. Then I would go back to Long Island and start climbing trees again because that's where the good money was. That ended when I was up in a slight leaner tree topping it out and then the tree uprooted and I came crashing down with a running chainsaw in hand!

It took me just about a year to recuperate from that unfortunate experience so I decided to do something safer and became a "Union Structural Steel Ironworker." I have 1750 hours more to go and then I'll be done with that profession for what I hope will be forever!

I own my own Freedive Spearfishing business called "Extreme Spearfishing" as well as still cutting trees and doing all phases of home improvements. Whenever we go out spearfishing we normally come back with about 100-200lbs. of Striped Bass. I go out just about every week during the season and all of my family and friends rely on me to get them fish. We do get skunked on occasion though it's normally when conditions are awful. It's still fun as heck pushing yourself to your limit and when you do get fish in those conditions you know that you've earned it!

Well, I just wanted to quickly check up on any replies and we have had our second disappearing cat dilema in 3 weeks just last night.

I'm now going to check out the local animal shelter and see if perhaps someone has trapped them and dropped them off there. Thanks for the warm reception all and I'll be back to communicate more with all of you "FOWL PEOPLE!"

Keep Smiling Out There!
