Hi, just wanted to say hello. I was googling around for information about breeding meat birds at home, and found this site. I feel like I struck gold!

We live on 5 acres in Colorado. I had a small laying flock, but dogs (bulldogs) ripped through the fencing and got them all late last summer. I've since reinforced with cattle fencing, and a really nice lady on freecycle gave us some little Belgian D'uccle birds (two Mille Fleur roosters, two Porcelain hens). My todder (who adored the layers) is so happy to have birds again! She has them following her everywhere (toddlers drop a lot of food, hee hee).

I'm starting over this spring (well, except for having the bantams). I'm planning to get some Cornish roosters and probably Partridge Rock hens, along with some meat birds for this year. I figure we'll be able to get all the eggs we want/need, and then incubate eggs for meat birds once the new hens are laying (I'll have to separate the Belgians from my big birds, I know).

Anyway, hello. I have some knowledge, but I look forward to learning from everyone here as well!

Hi, welcome to BYC! Enjoying the lovely snowfall today after our 70 degree day yesterday

I've never been on freecycle, I'll have to check that out. There's quite a few of us Coloradans on here.

Thanks for the warm welcome, y'all!

I mowed about an acre and a half yesterday, picked up trash (it's windy on the prairie...I found Christmas wrap hung on branches in our brush pile!), we went to the park and played, blew bubbles for the kid...we stayed outside as much as we possibly could, knowing that today would be Winter Revisited.

It is SO! Cold. I'm just hoping the wind stops soon. I've been ready for Spring for a while now.

Oh, and I'm in Falcon. When we moved here, it was a knocked-over stop sign across from a fire station. Now it's a regular town, with people and stores and all sorts of things we didn't expect! You just can't ever tell....
