I'm new here. This is my first post. I'm emotional right now so please be gentle. I had to put a duck down today. She was born with a leg deformity. I gave her a special living place and carefully cared for her. I tried the niacin and vitamin B when she was young but it didn't help. She always dragged her leg behind her. It became infected. I soaked it epsom salt regularly and kept it bandaged. It became gang green. It rotted to the bone. She was in so much pain. I had to put her down today. I shot her. I'm so disturbed by it all. Has anyone went through this? How did you get past it? I've never killed an animal before. I feel awful.
It doesn’t get easier but it’s absolutely the right thing to do, to alleviate suffering for our feathered and furred friends in our care.
Sorry for your loss.
Being an animal lover and having to do what is humanely best is never easy. Sounds like you done everything you could to help the poor little thing and that is very admirable on your part.
Try not to be so hard on yourself, you done the right thing.
