This morning, I was charged with the unenviable task of putting down one of my chicks. Born with a misaligned beak 'her' condition only worsened. She was half the size of her siblings and despite my best efforts to accommodate her special needs, she was really beginning to struggle getting enough feed. I feared this day would come, and I did exhaustive research on the most humane ways to dispatch her.
Life on the farm can be hard. I am confident I do the absolute best for my flock and all my animals. I am trying to find comfort in knowing that I did the right thing before Jaws started to suffer.
Thanks for letting me share...Don

You did 'right', IMO. Kudos.
Have had to euthanize more than a few chicks with leg deformities,
tho never had a cross beak but would do the same to them.
It's hard to do, but best in the long run.

Some folks like to have 'special needs' birds, you'll hear from them too.

Part of animal husbandry is taking care of your animals' quality of life. You need to use your ethics, morals, whatever you want to call them, to make that decision based on what you see. Not Aart's, mine, or anyone else's, just yours. It's not easy. You did the best you could. That's easy to see from your post.
