A silly thing my chicken did today.

Hi all,
My DD went to collect the eggs today. She took an egg carton hoping for more than the 2 she found. The first egg was in the hay under the nesting boxes. She put down the carton with the first egg and one of the girls came along gave it a little peck and rolled it out of the carton into the lid then out onto the hay and nudged it under her, but didn't sit on it. The chicken(Flower 1) went to investigate the spot where Sarah found the egg then went back outside. Can anybody tell me what that may have been about?

It's nesting behavior.

Yes, it sounds like nesting behavior, or somewhat distracted nesting behavior. Sometimes I collect eggs while there is still a hen in the nest box, and usually all the eggs are under the hen. If I just pull one out to the side, she will usually roll it back under her breast with the other eggs.

She Was simply stealing her egg back from your DD.....The egg thief!! Bahaha!
