A snake bit me yesterday!

Poor chickmom! Glad you're OK and he didn't really bite you hard. I actually really like snakes and am so happy to see them in my yard. I have never had a fear of them and would gladly welcome a huge black snake to live in, under or around my coop if it kept the rodents away. Of course, I live in Michigan where we only have one venomous snake, the Missassauga Rattler and in 59 years, I've never seen one. I admit it would probably startle me to feel a snake under a hen, but once my mind processed what it was I would just take it out and release it in the woods behind the coop. Yes, it would be back, but they don't eat full grown hens and I'd even sacrifice a few eggs for the rodent control. Now if I reached under a hen and felt a huge SPIDER you'd have to peel me off the ceiling!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you are ok, Ive seen 3 snakes around my coop so far, only one which might grow large enough to be a problem, it was a black snake over 2 ft long. Thats the biggest snake I have seen around my house, most are just grass snakes that are around a foot or less. I saw one today that I thought I had killed when I ran over it with a tiller, cut about 6 inches off of it, but it had a nub forming where I hit it a few weeks ago and was moving around fine.

Well try three diamond back rattlers a month ago and then a 4 an a half foot rat snake in the nest box. .22 rifle is my weapon of choice!! to heck with a shovel or hoe lol

I rolled over in bed last night and felt something rasp across my arm. Blankets went one way, I went the other and then the hunt began.

It was a three inch stag beetle

Never yet had a snake in the bed but a friend of mine took one of my snakes home to get his mum over her fear of snakes. It promptly escaped and she found it in her bed that night......................

She didnt let him come home for eight days

I saw a three ft black racer by the chickens this morning. My only thought was "Dont go in there ya daft thing, those bloody chickens will eat YOU!"

I stepped on a little snake for the very first time in my life a month or two ago. I stepped outside with my flip flops on, for some reason looked down, and there was a small black snake wiggling for all it was worth under my foot. I leeped about 30 feet.....looked back, and the little dude was just looking at me like...man, watch where you're steppin, will ya?

I have to admit he was cute, and little. Had he big a really big one, Im sure Id be dead now from the heart attack.

It was quite a surprise to step on one and have it bite me! LOL I'm alot more observant when I walk across the back yard now......

Yeah I can understand that! If I had dropped that chicken pen I was carrying on my foot, it would have been worse than the snake bite! That thing was heavy! LOL

I am just fine, thanks! That rattle snake would have scared the crap out of me I think! I've alway been a little bit of a tomboy....I love seeing frogs or little things like that.....I've seen plenty of small snakes and even picked a few up, but THIS SNAKE WAS HUGE! I was really shocked at how big it was!

LOL, they are cute when they're tiny......Good rodent control too. Oh, you would have lost it totally if you stepped on the same snake I stepped on! I just can't get over how big it was.....long and even fat.....And it was SO FAST! Thank goodness it wasn't poisonous.
