I wanted to share a story about one of my chickens from my past. She was a mixed breed black hen, I named Whoopi. She started getting bullied by the others, so bad, I was concerned about her safety. At the time, I had a large house with a sunroof. I decided to make her a permanent house chicken. She was in a large cage next to my parrot. They really enjoyed each other's company. Of course I would let her out to play, including outside with me. Whoopi's toenails needed trimming alot and even though I could do it myself my vet would for just $8. She actually LOVED going to the vet, I guess a nice change of scenery. But Whoopi developed significant cataracts and sadly became blind. But she learned where her food was and if I tapped on the cage, she would go to that spot for her treats. My dear Whoopi lived to be 13 1/2 years old. She sure was special and I carry a special place for her in my heart always.

Whoopi sounds like one very special hen! Sorry for your loss but living that long sure points out facts that you took such good care of her, and she was one very happy hen!

If you have a pile of pictures of her or have any other pets, you can create your own thread here too: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/pictures-stories-of-my-flock.39/ Many of us have one there. :)

Thank you. Yes I do have a pile of pictures. My animals are absolutely my family. In addition to my chickids (10), I currently have a senior kitty (19.5 yrs old) and a chihuahua. Animals are my life! I will keep the link to add pictures later. I think I'm kinda getting the hang of this forum. I love meeting chicken people, like you!
