Hello, my first few posts were about three barred rock chickens that were sold to me as hens but were roosters so I processed them.
One of the roosters was pooping a really foul smelling brown diarrhea . I had 8 Cornish x chicks in the same run and for a while the same coop.
Now, although I have the roosters in the freezer, some of the x birds are pooping like the rooster and one is sneezing as well as some of the birds seem to shiver and shake. It is time to process the birds as they are a little older than 8 weeks. This started last week.
Does anyone know what is wrong with these birds and would they be safe to eat ?? Should I try to treat them before I send them to the freezer??
I am worrying about the next flock, witch will be laying hens, catching the same sickness. Would bleaching down the coop and run kill the sickness ???

Any help would me greatly appreciated

#1 What sickness do they have.

#2 would they be safe to eat
#3 should I try to treat and heal them before processing
# 4 how do I kill the sickness as not to spread further

thanks, Bruce

I don't know what they have it could be a number of things.

I would not treat if it is time to process, if you treat them with antibiotics it has to be for 6-7 days then there has to be a withdrawl period before they can be processed. I would just process asap

I would eat them

sanitize sanitize sanitize thats how you can kill the sickness, you can also get future birds vaccinated

Here is a good website with diseases by symptoms http://www.poultry.msstate.edu/extension/pdf/diseases_poultry_diagnosis_symptoms.pdf see if any symptoms match your birds, also when you process you might see something on the internal organs that can give you a clue to what they have.
