A Swamp Monster Hatched In My 'Bator!

I had already raked all the goop and shells out into a trash bag before I thought about making the photos. These have been hatching all week so as the goslings dried and I took them out of the bator I had taken most of the shells out at the same time. Also it was so bad after 2 of the hatches I took the liner out at washed it off and put it back. It was just disgusting and slimey and gross and the babies where flopping in it and the other eggs were rolling in it. Yuck!

Ok, I'm going to take it apart and soak it good. Don't have any eggs coming

But I'd like to be ready when I do. My hatches haven't been great either, but they weren't the good when it was new either

What a great post Miss P. I had not been doing this thorough of a cleaning. I wonder what my hatches would have been like had I been doing this all along! I've got my last hatch in right now, but next year I'll be ready!

Are those thermometers taped to the bottom side of the window? Also do you leave your temp/humidity monitor in the bator during the whole time like shown in the pics or do you just put the sensor lead in there? (i have the same unit as you) Thanks

They are just layting on top. I usually put them in the floor of my little brooder while waiting for a hatch to get an idea of the temp. When iIcleaned them I just laid them back on top to dry and so I can find them next time. I do NOT use those to hatch by.

Thermometer goes inside. The body reads the humidity. The probe only reads a temp.

So, what do you do for staggered hatches in cabinet type incubators? Do I need to work on getting another incubator for staggered hatches, or is there something I can clean the bottom hatching area with that won't effect my other eggs?

If you plan to stagger hatches you need a second machine to use as a hatcher. No two ways about it.

Some people do have success with staggered hatched in one bator but most people don't. Some people consider even 1 egg hatching a success. Well if you stagger your hatch and only 1 of those eggs hatches to me that is a huge failure.

It is not worth the risk of an entire hatch to stagger them without a hatcher.
