A Swamp Monster Hatched In My 'Bator!

I use all of mine for either or. I guess it depends on how much money you are willing to spend and what you expect to do with it.

If you are going to buy a bator you may as well by a good one to have on hand for stand by.

Is there any alternative to bleach? Its such an awful chemical that I don't usually keep on hand... I switched to vinegar a LONG time ago for pretty much everything... or hot water or sun baking is about all we do to sanitize anything.

and then adding:
I found this link related to birds & disinfection which describes several alternatives to bleach which I'll be keen to try especially the peroxide/vinegar method: http://www.avianweb.com/disinfecting.htm

I don't mean to sound dence, but whats the difference between a hatcher and plain incubation?

That is a great idea to take it apart. I'm going to try that next time. I didn't dare try it but if it worked for you I'm willing to try! Looks really good and clean after that mess! Whew!

An incubator can be both an incubator and a hatcher.

When we stagger hathes - meaning 2 sets of eggs with different hatch dates - the environment for incubating and hatching are not the same. So the hatcher can be another incubator where we place the eggs for the last three days in a higher humidity environment, yet maintaining the same temp, for the eggs to have the most optimal conditions to hatch.

This is a great post MissP! I had no idea that I could take my bator apart like that. I will definitely do that next spring when I'm hatching eggs again. That would get it much cleaner than I've been able to. Thanks!
