Chirping
Hi everyone. I won't be starting my flock for another couple of months but I'm joining now so I can continue to educate myself before taking responsibility of those fluffy little beasts. I'll go with the template since that seems the easiest way to start!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
BRAND new. I've read books, blogs, and forums; I've ordered my coop and run, and I've researched the varieties good for my region and my wants, but I couldn't be newer to the scene.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I plan to start with 3-4. My coop and run says it will be good for 6 but I'm not going to overload that until I know my girls better.
(3) What breeds do you have?
There are five I'm looking at. My summers are hot, my winters are snowy, and I'd really like more docile, friendly ladies.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I google searched for some good "chicken math" stories and this forum popped up. Of course it did!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, gardening (veg, not flowers), running, travel
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My guy and I live in the high desert on 1.5 acres. The minute we decided to get the land I informed him we were getting hens. Fortunately, he agreed! I have two dogs and a cat and I'm hoping that with the land, I can get a goat or two, as well.
