A tree fell on me today. Seriously.

Yes, it really happened.

I didn't know what thread to post this under! Ultimately, I decided it kind of fit into the Garden thread.

I'm beat and will probably go to bed soon. I don't even have the energy to respond to some of the threads I need to respond to today.

My husband and I were taking down trees on our "homestead" property today in order to plant kiwis, peas and blueberries. The routine is to tie a chain around the tree which I pull on from a distance in order to direct the tree away from the trailer we are rebuilding while he uses the chainsaw to make the cuts.

The trees aren't huge, but you don't want to have one fall on you. I'm pulling on the chain, the tree starts coming down, I run to the left, the tree starts falling to the left (!!!), I try to jump over another fallen tree, don't make it, fall over the tree on my side, hitting the side of my head fully on the ground while the darned falling tree lands on my right leg! I've got branches all over me and I can't move. DH comes over to get the tree off my leg, but he can't budge it. He has to chainsaw it off of me. I went and and poured myself a stiff drink after that and we didn't cut down any more trees today, lol!

Here's the tree on the ground:

Here's where he cut me free:

I just can't believe I didn't get seriously hurt. I have some bruising on the side of my face, but its minor. My leg is fine. If the tree had less branches, it could have broken it. I feel lucky.

Glad you are ok. I remember holding a rope when I was 13 or so. Limb was about 450#. It didn't go slow like we thought. It broke instantly and yanked me 20 feet across the yard before I understood what was happening. Like something out of 3 stooges lol. It's a miracle I lived past 20.
For me life is more about the story you can tell. I can take an injury if it makes a good story. Yours is a good story.
Rest up and heal well!
