We were out of eggs, and GS flew in from Alaska last night. He's nine and full of energy and curiosity, so I decided on a trip to Grefield's, for eggs, for Luke, and to get my DH more educated on the simplicity of farming.

Here we get to the farm. Loren gets ready to give the tour, with DH following.

A cold frame, one of the things that DH needs to learn about!

Obviously I am not the greatest photographer as I try to get a shot of Carolyn.

Steak, on the hoof. The pretty little calf was a surprise for the farm, as the cow was supposed to be sterile.

Meat birds, a combo of Freedom Rangers and some crosses of Greyfield's own.

Luke learns to milk a goat. Although Loren is a strict moderator, he is GREAT with kids. Luke picked up on milking like he was born to do it.

The goats.

Luke tries out the stanchion, while one of the babies sneaks in for munchies.

It's time to go. Lots of work to do at home! Thank you Loren and Carolyn! And see you soon.

I was there!!!

Thanks for the visit and I enjoyed showing you around! Too bad the lambs were out in another pasture or we could have handled some of them as well.

It was a pleasure showing him how to milk. Vera's buckling is getting so big now (2 months old tomorrow) that he's taking the majority of the groceries. So as often happens, we jsut fed the milk to the pigs. They really enjoy goats milk and all the oddball eggies we don't sell.

You inspired me and we actually weeded the cold frames today.. we have them all full now and are about ready to cycle the first lettuce and spinach out & replant. That reminds me, I need to mix some more fertilizer.... /sigh

Well, you inspired DH! He is really starting to plan for more farming up here. He was talking business license before we got home, and is now pondering fences....we'll see how much I get this year, but at least we got him started! Thanks for the help!

I'm thinking I'm gonna try and come up on the 6th for the market, so remind me I've got a couple of things for your DW.

Wattaya mean, fertilizer? Ya got plenty of it coming out of all the animals already!

I'm on an island in the middle of the Columbia river like 8 feet above sea level. So, those hills yonder are actually over in Oregon. The island is considered in Washington. :0

I thought maybe I was going the wrong way when I was crossing the Columbia the first time.

It's a beautiful island, wish I could convince DH to live somewhere like that! He was interested.......hmmmmmm, but too far away for him, dang it!
