Our daughter was out riding the 4-wheeler in the pasture this afternoon & comes flying in the yard yelling something about a turkey...we get her calmed down enough to get the story out of her...she saw one of our Rio Grande hens with a baby in the back of our property.

Off we go...sure enough, there's one of our "missing hens" with 2 babies! The first natural hatch we've had!

We'd given our hens up for dead since we've not seen them in a while...now if we could only find Tom!

They didn't "escape". We kept them penned for a long time, then decided to turn them out to free range, they stayed right here, for the most part, but when "mommy time" kicked in, they disappeared.

Your hen probably hatched a lot more than two and lost them to predators. It is unusual for a tom to leave and not return. I would pen the hens and poults until the poults get older if I were you.
