Hi guys,

it looks like you are expert in such things, so I hope you may help...

I have a cat door elevated from the ground and I need to keep it open all the day and at night for my cat.
But this door is also in usage by very smart raccoon.

The cat door has a special shelve - step that I made since it elevated.
I made this shelve very deep but Raccoon still is able to climb.

Here my two short videos (5 and 6 mb avi-files) in infrared:

http://rapidshare.com/files/379699085/raccoon1.avi
http://rapidshare.com/files/379700623/raccoon2.avi

Please watch them to understand the specifics of the problem.
You will see that raccoon had problem with climbing at first night, but already on the next night it penetrated easily...

Thanks in advance.

They make dog (and cat) doors that require the animal to wear a collar that transmits a signal to open the door. Invest in one. Or shoot the coon.

yotetrapper,

you do not need to register, just choose "free" option.

Olive Hill,

I know this device but my cat will not wear any collar.

well idk if it cost money but u can call wildlife place frome the phone book & they will relocate the coon or the human society sh(uld help with a humane trap since its a núcence

You could get a have-a-heart trap and catch the coon then send him to live somewhere else. The have-a-heart traps are great, because if your cat gets caught, it won't be hurt.

Please don't relocate... Along with the possibility of disease transmission, you're simply dumping your problem off on someone else, no matter "how far away" you take it. IMHO, relocation is NEVER a good idea with the exception of the trained professional in extreme and special circumstances (i.e. conservation officer, wildlife rehabber, etc.)
