A Very Loud Hen

Went into the coop this morning to check for eggs, as soon as I open the door, Chardonnay screams "BA-KAAK BA-KAAK Buk Buk Buk ... BA-KAAK BA-KAAK Buk Buk Buk". I have no idea why, I've never had a hen be so protective of her eggs. Thoughts?

How old are your birds, in weeks or months?
How long have they been laying?

Some birds are just very vocal, especially when they first start laying.
Not likely to be about 'protecting her eggs'.

They’re just over five months old.

Probably getting close to laying, if not already started.
Lots of vocalizing around that time.
