Today I came home to our very first egg layed by our 26 week old Easter Egger. We all know first eggs are exciting, but this egg is eggstra special to us as it was layed by our severely scissor beaked pullet named Marley. Marley, who is not only scissor beaked but also her four other flock mates turned on her one day a few weeks ago pecked a large hole in her back. Marley spent two weeks in a dog kennel in our garage recovering and was recently able to relocate to a new coop, built just for her and her new friend, a three month old polish named Phyllis. I was sure that she would be extremely delayed in laying eggs and suspected she may never lay eggs due to her extreme scissor beak condition. Marley is a survivor, she eats and drinks like a trooper and healed quickly from her injuries with her new feathers recently beginning to bloom out. She loves mash made from flock raiser crumbles with some Gerber bananas mixed in as a treat and today she layed this beautiful green egg...
