Morning, Moonjelly. I have a request: could you provide the age of the chicks in each video. Hopefully, we’ll end up with a record of videos of chicks at known ages.

Hi. I certainly will. Right now the plan is to show the hatch, then 12 hours old, then 24 hours and from there day, 2, day 3, etc.

Hatch of Egg 1. I missed most of this hatch. I checked on the egg and the was no cracks 2 hours prior to this. So the egg must have taken 2 hours to entirely hatch. This egg was shipped to me from Hayward, California and was incubated at 96.5 for 54 days in a Hovabator Genesis. The starting weight of the egg was 581.3 grams. I suspect the chick to be female, but I have not DNA sexed yet.

Day 2. This is 12 hours after hatching.

Second chick hatching. I was lucky enough to capture the hatch in HD video. This chick is much smaller and lighter called than the first.

The chicks learning to walk. The smaller lighter check is a day younger.

The chicks learn to eat and drink with a little help from the older ostrich chicks.
