a way to tell a broody?

Can U tell if a hen is broody before she sets?
Does a hen lay eggs away from the others eggs when they go broody? Can U tell by the egg shell if it is fertil?

Please let me know i'm a beginner, Larra

Can't tell if the egg is fertile unless you crack it open.

You will know she is broody when you think a Wolverine has taken the place of your hen, and she growls and tries to take your hand off if you attempt to reach under her.

Broodies usually start clucking and fluffing up before they actually sit on the eggs in earnest. Actual clucking, contrary to popular belief, is not a sound a chicken normally makes. It's specifically a sound a broody hen makes. If you hear your girl clucking and see her fluffing her feathers out, those are symptoms. Usually, though, the only way to know for sure if she's broody is if she sits on the eggs over night rather than going to roost. That's when I give them eggs.
