I'm new to chickens, but figured quickly that this wasn't an Americana. It's approx 4weeks old. Is this a Wyandotte roo or hen? As a side note, I wanted my favorite to be my EE (Annabelle) but I am finding myself quite fond of my Barred Rocks.

Thanks, I kind of figured it was. Hey, overall for getting feed store baby chicks, 7 of the 8 were pullets, not too bad. Unfortunately, I lost 2 to the dog.

He's turning into a pretty nice roo. Respectful of me, a bit skittish, but I if I can catch him, he's pretty calm. Though his beginning "crows" are pathetic! LOL As long as he's nice to me and his girls, he'll avoid the pot.

Hi I'm new to this site and was wondering if anyone can tell me if I have a boy or girl silver pencilled Wyandcotte. Pics attached at 5 weeks old. Sorry if I have posted on wrong thread as well! Thanks !

To me (and I'm only a few more weeks ahead of you) that looks like one of my barred rocks, best guess , is a cockrell, the comb looks a little pronounced . Does the comb look like the rest of the chicks, you have?

Thanks so much for your reply. I have never kept chickens before and when looking at Wyandcotte on the net mine did look different but now looking at Barred Rocks I see what you mean, 'she' is so so friendly I was hoping for a girl as can't keep Roos

How long before I know for sure, or do I need to stop kidding myself??? The other chick I got, also sold as a Wyandcotte is much smaller, pic attached. I thought this one was a girl as comb so different but now I am aware I'm not comparing the same breed!!! The other chick I got is a silkie so I know I will have to wait longer to find out about that one.
