Below is a summary of an A4 cheat Sheet I would like to give to people when I sell my birds.
The main selling point people seem to like Japanese Quails for is the eggs and then secondly for the meat.

I remember JJ mentioning something about the Quail law on to the reasons why Quails would not lay eggs.
I would really like to incorporate his exact wording as I found it quite amusing.

JJ if I could have your permission to use your text in this hand out it would be greatly appreciated.

If other members could please read through the italic text below and let me know if I am missing any essential information. It would be greatly appreciated.

Quails need

28%-32% protein feed game bird feed.-you may get away with 23% protein feed.
They need their water changed everyday and their poop cleaned away everyday as they are smelly birdies.
Their average life span is about 3yrs. - But can live up to 7-8.

They should produce an egg for you nearly everyday except if:

  • They are not getting enough light (about 14 hours).
  • You have changed their feed.
  • You have moved their cage.
  • You have added a new bird and changed their heirachy status of the top bird.
  • They are male.
  • They are in moult.
  • They are sick.

You cannot raise Quail with chickens.
If you have chickens, Do not cross contaminate between them.
Tend to the quail first, then go to the chickens.
Wash hands each time between the two species
Chickens will peck them to death due to size difference.

Shelter:

Needs to be protected from wind and rain.
Approximately needs ______ space per a bird.
Preferentially you would like them housed outside.

A convey consists of 1 male to 3-4 females.- Do not make Noah's arc pairs.
