Awesome!!!Okay, so!!
Nexcare bandages are really nice for a first-time shoe.
However, they don't stick as much as other bandaids. It's one of the reasons I picked them. They also grip better than plastic, while not having the super sticky strength of fabric.
The quail kept taking off it's left shoe.
Good news is that the right foot has already begun to show signs of rehabilitation. I've switched to Lisa Frank plastic bandages. Nothing but the best for my quail! It's so vogue! XD
I'm also giving it light physical therapy by putting it in the food bin, which is comprised of the powder I sifted out of the quail food from previous quail ownership. It has valleys and hills where I've been scooping it out and putting it in the brooder box. It ate a WHOLE bunch of food and the powder stuck to the bits of bandaid that were sticking to each other in a way they didn't need to. Also, it had some muscle building trying to walk around with the shoes and dunes. It still hasn't figured out quite how to walk yet, but it will come in time. I did a much better job of the shoe on the left foot this time and it's sitting almost perfectly straight on. I'm still putting it in the little teacup for rest most of the time, as otherwise it ends up in a cold corner on it's back.
On the bright side, it's over whatever infection it had and is otherwise healthy. So I'll keep taking it away, putting new shoes on as needed to adjust the position or just to replace it all together, give it physical therapy, make sure it eats, and help it stand by the water hole til it's figured it out.
DANG this has been challenging!
